Set up the Bancontact Pro payment app

The Bancontact Pro app turns your smartphone or tablet into a mobile payment terminal. This guide covers everything you need to know to start accepting payments on the move.

Request a Bancontact Pro app account

Go to the ‘Shops and products’ tab in the Bancontact Pro portal. Select add a product, select app and follow the instructions.

Activate your account

Once your request has been accepted, you’ll receive an email with your username and a request to set your password. Open the email and follow the steps to complete the setup.

Password link expired? Simply request a new one by clicking "Forgot password?" or on https://app.bancontactpro.com

Log in via the app

First, download the Bancontact Pro app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). Next, open the app and log in using your username and password.

Make a test payment

To ensure everything is running perfectly, we recommend performing a quick test of your app:

- Open the Bancontact Pro app and enter a small test amount.
- Use a different device with the Bancontact Pay app or a bank app installed on it to scan the QR code and confirm the payment.
- Once the transaction is complete, check that the payment appears immediately in your app's transaction history. If you see it there, you are ready to go.

Display the promotional material

Your welcome pack should arrive within 10 working days. It includes your official Bancontact Pro QR code sticker and a window sticker.

Place the sticker(s) prominently at your checkout or entrance so customers know they can pay mobile with Bancontact Pay or their bank app.

Did you know?

The Bancontact Pro app displays the QR code on your screen by default, which customers scan directly from your device. 

If you prefer using the physical QR sticker included in your welcome pack, simply go to 'Settings' in the app menu and update your display method under 'QR preferences'. Once enabled, you enter the amount on your device and the customer scans your sticker to pay. 

Please note: as long as the sticker setting is active, the QR code will no longer appear on your screen. 

How it works for you

  • Open the app and in type the total. You can add a short reference for your records. 
  • Tap the button to display the QR code on your screen for the customer to scan. 
  • The customer scans the code using their banking app or the Bancontact Pay app and confirms the payment. 
  • A green confirmation screen appears instantly once the payment is successful. 
  • Transaction overview: the sale is visible in your daily overview immediately.

Useful tips

  • Choose your display: toggle between displaying the QR code on your device or using your physical sticker. Go to 'Settings' to select the display method that best suits your service style, whether at the till or on the move. 
  • Access anywhere: use the Bancontact Pro app on your smartphone or tablet or access the same features on a laptop or desktop browser via app.bancontactpro.com. 
  • Track your payments: view all successful transactions directly in the Bancontact Pro app or on the Bancontact Pro portal.  
  • Please note that your portal login details are different from your app credentials. 
  • Add your team: easily grant staff access to accept payments on their own devices without sharing your personal login. Simply use the 'Linked devices' option in the menu.
